Coach Darryn Shearmire Inducted into Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame

Coach Darryn Shearmire, head coach of the Varsity Ladies Basketball team, was inducted into the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame in San Antonio on May 10. Numerous student athletes and their families traveled to the ceremony to support Coach Shearmire and celebrate this exciting accomplishment.

The Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame inducted eight additions with the Class of 2025. The incoming group of inductees is composed of four coaches and four standout players who were being recognized for their achievements on the court and their overall influence on the game of basketball in the Lone Star State.

“Excellence is the best word to describe the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2025,” said TABC Executive Director Johnnie B. “Hawk” Carter. “These eight men and women have left a lasting legacy on the high school hardwood with their victories, records and honors. They have also been great off-the-court ambassadors for basketball both within and outside the state of Texas.”

Coach Shearmire played for Archer City High School from 1979-1982 where he helped lead Archer City to three straight undefeated district titles and two State Tournament appearances. He had a combined high school record of 116-23 and scored 2,600 points. He was the leading scorer in high school in 1982 with a 37.0 points per game – at a time in which there was no three-point line. Shearmire was an All-State player in 1981 and 1982, and an All-Tournament selection in 1981. He went on to play college basketball at Abilene Christian before beginning a 39-year career as a basketball coach on the prep and collegiate levels. He is currently the head coach of the girls’ basketball team at Bridgeport High School.
